Westmount has always had a tradition of Technological Studies. In 1994, Mr. Scarcelli took the responsibility of Department Head. He came in as the Tech Design teacher, however, he also had to teach the CommTech lines. Mr. Weiss and Mr. Binotto were teachers at the time and together the trio started working hard and doing what ever it took to improve enrollment within their courses. it was challenging of course, but they were relentless and working together they started to make an impact. Numbers started to go up and because of that, they were allowed to add an assistant head. So in 2005, Mr. T came from McNab to take on this position. Immediately the CommTech lines increased and we had to add another teacher the year after. Mr. Armstrong transferred from the Brant County Board and focused on the Grade 9 lines. With 5 teachers hard at work promoting and providing excellent curriculum, the department number continued to grow. In 2007,, the Tech Video was born. This of course added to our popularity and students became more interested in the Tech courses. Then we added Mr. French and Mr. Sneath to our staff. Thus, the videos became more interesting with more characters to incorporate in the script. When Mr. Weiss retired, we hired Mr. Sykula and he was more than eager to continue tradition and join in on the fun. His video was Tech Wars….. Where he played a Jedi.

  Every single script was written by Mr. Scarcelli except one video, Malevolence which was written by Ms. Charters. When the Ministry made Computer Programming part of the Tech department a few years back, we were able to welcome Mr. Trink and Mr. Lepischak into our department. The videos were well underway at this point and they were submersed into the plot.

  So today, 2 decades later, the Tech Department is 8 teacher's strong with approximately 50 lines a year. It is the 3rd biggest department in the school and actively involved in the culture and the community at large.
